Farmers to receive premium fertilizer and agronomic expertise from Yara Africa

Yara- Action Africa: Thriving Farms, Thriving Future - is an initiative with the goal to mobilize support for 10,000 small-scale farmers in Kiambu County to secure food production and improved food security.

The initiative seek to benefit farmers with 20,000 bags of premium fertilizer and agronomic expertise which includes farmer connectivity, digital solutions and operational support including the high quality fertilizer for improved nutrition. Yara’s fertilizer contribution, combined with agronomic support, is expected and capable to tripple maize production.

In his remarks, the Yara Country Manager. Mr. William Ngeno was very pleased with this partnership and was keen to collaborate with Kiambu Government to improve yields through distributing quality seeds and fertilizer to farmers and enhance capacity building to the same farmers.

In regard to capacity building for farmers, the head of extension and capacity building, Alliance for Green Revolution Africa (AGRA) Dr.Paul Seward said that

We have identified and trained 1,000 village based advisors (VBAs)in Kiambu County to teach farmers good agronomic practices, this will in turn inrease yields and improve farmers income.

Kiambu Governor H.E. James Nyoro thanked Yara for their kind gesture to support 10,000 farmers in Kiambu.

Also present was the Deputy Governor. H.E Dr. Joyce Ngugi, CECM for Agriculture Joseph Kamau, Chief Officer Agriculture Dr. David Kamundia and The Chairman for the Committee on Agriculture in the County Assembly of Kiambu Joseph Mwai.
